Biography of South Jacksonville, IL Trustee Paula Belobrajdic-Stewart

South Jacksonville, IL Village Trustee Paula Belobrajdic-Stewart, first appointed in 2015 and now beginning her 9th year, is the senior member of the Village Board. A 1984 graduate of Jacksonville High School, Belobrajdic-Stewart holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from MacMurray College in Jacksonville with a LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist 1) Endorsement from the University of St. Francis in Joliet. She earned a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Illinois at Springfield with an Administration/Principal Certification. She is a Kindergarten thru 2nd Grade Multiple Disabilities Special Education Teacher in the LIFE (Learning in Functional Environments) Program for Four Rivers Special Education District in Jacksonville, IL., where she also works as the Esser Grant Administrator.

● Belobrajdic-Stewart and her husband Ed have been married for 35 years, and are parents of three sons, Braxton of Jacksonville, IL; Brody of South Jacksonville, IL; and Blaize of Chicago, IL; and one daughter, Bentley Landess (husband Mason) of South Jacksonville, IL; and they are the proud grandparents of one grandson, Angus Edward Landess. They are expecting their second grandchild in July of 2024.

● As a Village Trustee, Belobrajdic-Stewart created and wrote the VOSJ Equity and Inclusion Resolution with the guidance of numerous community advocates. The Resolution passed, unanimously, in January of 2021. She has served as Concert in the Cornfield Co-Chair as well as the Chair of the South Jacksonville Celebration for many years. As Chair of the Tourism Committee, she was instrumental in bringing the Village Welcome Sign to the corner of Prairie Land Heritage Museum (PLHM) and Lincoln Avenue utilizing Tourism Funds. Additionally, in a partnership with PLHM and FRSED (Four Rivers Special Education District), Belobrajdic-Stewart brought the South Jacksonville Celebration Carnival to the grounds of PLHM in 2022. This is a free weekend event for the public which features a private day specifically for schools to bring their students. Many students have never had the opportunity to experience a Carnival. The annual event is paid for with Tourism Funds and attracts thousands of Carnival-goers from all over Central Illinois into the Village.

● Belobrajdic-Stewart is active in many aspects of her community. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Ebenezer Cemetery, the Four Rivers Special Education Association Union Executive Board, and the Council for Exceptional Children (Chapter 99) Executive Board as a member at-large. She is a member of the DKG (Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter) Illinois Key Women Educators, a member of the Illinois Federation of Teachers Union, a member of the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society, and an United Way Allocations Committee Volunteer. She is a member of Our Saviour Catholic Church​.
